It’s summertime, which means it is hot outside! If you're in the middle of a warm weather move, you know just how uncomfortable it can be. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to make the process a little more bearable. In this blog post, the residential and long distance movers at A-Turner Moving & Storage will discuss some tips for staying cool during your move.
Hydration Is Key
Moving during the warm weather is sure to make you tired and sweaty. That is why we recommend having water on hand. Whether it's for you or the residential movers who are helping you move, water is important to stay hydrated. The last thing you want to happen is for you or someone else to pass out from heat exhaustion, so come prepared with water to make the move in the sun more bearable.
Dress Appropriately
During a warm weather move, you can expect to be sweaty and hot, which is why it is important to dress appropriately. This means that you should avoid wearing heavy clothes, long sleeves, sweatpants, and other sweat inducing and non-breathable clothing. Wearing these items of clothing will just make the whole move feel worse than it should.
We recommend wearing clothing that is breathable, protective, and comfortable to keep yourself properly cool. These items include:
- Cotton Apparel
- Sports Apparel
- Gloves For Sweaty Hands
- Close-Toed Shoes
Make Sure Your Vehicle Is Ready For A Move
If you are planning a long distance move, then making sure your vehicle is in good condition is important. If your car breaks down or if the AC isn’t working properly, then you are putting yourself and others at risk of heat exhaustion. Make sure your vehicle is ready for a long distance drive to ensure no issues arise.
Keep Your Home At A Good Temperature
Doors are usually always open during a move since movers have to come in and out of your home. This means air conditioning might not be effective, which is why we recommend some other cooling options. These options include:
- Setting Fans In Rooms
- Opening Windows If There Is A Breeze
- Fanning Yourself If It’s Hot
In addition to cooling recommendations, we also recommend to keep children and pets out of your home and put them somewhere else during your move since the AC may not help with keeping your home cool. Keep them in a climate-controlled environment on moving day.
Know Your Limits
Moving day can take a lot out of you, so make sure you’re prepared. Don’t push yourself too hard if you don’t need to since that can just put more stress on your body. Take breaks and have some snacks on hand to make sure you’re not utterly exhausted. You can also hire professional movers to do the moving for you!
Stay Cool During Your Move
Moving during a hot day is exhausting, so make sure you take the proper precautions to minimize the stress that the heat brings. With our tips, hopefully your warm weather move won’t be as bad than if you hadn’t followed them!
