Moving on a College Student’s Budget

Looking forward to moving into that new apartment off campus?  Our University of Florida movers have some helpful tips for you on how to save money on your upcoming move.  Most college students and recent graduates don’t have an endless supply of money to move into a new home.  Some of the best and easiest ways our UF moving company recommends to save on your relocation include:

Plan Ahead.  By planning your move early you have time to comparison shop on moving companies in your area.  This also ensures that you get the right moving day without having to pay an exorbitant amount for a professional mover.

Save On Packing.  Packing yourself can save you a lot of money because you won’t be wasting your move time having movers pack your home for you.  Some moving companies have bins you can rent from them to move.  Not only can you save your own packing materials like boxes and newspaper, you can also ask your moving company if they have used boxes.  Many companies will offer you used supplies at a discounted price – some are even free!

Purge.  Empty your home of unwanted, unnecessary and unused items.  Donate reusable items and throw away anything that can’t be donated.  Many move costs are calculated by weight and distance, so removing excess weight will help you to save money.
